Originally created by rig0r, it was then enhanced and maintained by the EVE-Dev group. (To this day, the Eve-dev group is still working on their killboard as far as I know).
While I could have submit bug reports along with my candidature to the Eve-dev group to help them, I took on me to make it a personal project a day I had a week or 2 off from work somewhere in March 2006 and didn't want to just bust in the place and say: "Hey, let's rewrite this stuff from the ground up!".
So here it is... 90% of the code is new, templates are now using the full power of Smarty (completly templated with no HTML in the code) and rendered HTML has been brought to closer standards (validation), ADODB is used as a database layer and while the code may seem very academic, overkill and ridiculously simplified from a dev eye, it should be more easily understandable and easy to follow and debug.
I did my best to make sure most of existing features are there except a few that I considered either useless or duplicates (campaign vs contracts for example). I went on a different path to make easily available core functions and I think I made the modules development easier.
Bear in mind that I do not consider making this project a competition against the other killboards of the same origin. If I don't keep it as a personal project, I'll release the code and people will be free to like/use it or not. As simple as that. But it won't happen until I feel confident I can follow and support such a fork with all the work it can bring. And it's not the case at the moment.
All EVE graphics and data used are property of CCP.
This killboard currently contains: 19815 killmails, 68,512,689 destroyed items, 52222 pilots, 6827 corporations and 1112 alliances.
Portraits
In order to make your character portrait visible on the killboard, please take the time to visit
the killboard using the ingame browser and choose the option: 'Update portrait'.
When prompted to trust the site choose YES, at this point the killboard will obtain your character ID and record it within the database.
Kills & Real kills
'Kills' - The count of all kills by an entity.'Real kills' - This is the count of recorded kills minus any pod, shuttle and noobship kills.
The 'Real kills' value is used throughout all award and statistic pages.
Kill points
Administrator option.
If enabled, every kill is assigned a point value. Based on the shiptype destroyed, and the number and types of ships involved in the kill, the number of points indicates the difficulty of the kill... As a result, a gank will get a lot less points awarded than a kill in a small engagement.
Efficiency
Each shipclass has an ISK value assigned. These are based on the average amount of ISK that would have been lost
if the ship was destroyed, taking current average market prices, insurance costs and insurance payouts into account.
Any modules that may have been fitted, contained within the destroyed cargo or confiscated are not included within this value.
Efficiency is calculated as the ratio of damage done in ISK versus the damage received in ISK. This comes down to damagedone / (damagedone + damagereceived ) * 100.
While the original rig0r/eve-dev killboard calculates this only from the ship value, on this killboard, it is calculated from the ship AND the destroyed items also. (Except in campaign target overviews).
Signatures
The signature mod includes an htaccess to put at the root folder of your killboard.
If your host supports the RewriteUrl engine, put this htaccess at the root folder and you'll
be able to use the signature in forums like phpBB. (See the phpBB linkage on the signatures list).
